Hello, I’m John Prouse.
I’m an optician and I’ve done over 30,000 eye tests and counting.
Here’s my story.
I promise I’ll keep it short.
Let’s begin…
If you have insomnia, this may help.
Once Upon a Time…
I still remember the day I realised my eyesight wasn't quite right.
I was around the age of ten, sitting on a bench in Redcar with my dad, eating fish and chips and looking out to sea.
"Can you see those ships?" he asked, pointing towards the horizon.
"What ships?" I replied.
Not long afterwards, I found myself sitting in an optician's chair for the very first time.
I remember the eye chart looking very blurry.
But then the optician did his thing. He shone some lights into my eyes, clicked a few lenses in and out, and suddenly I could see the bottom line.
Everything looked sharper.
Clearer.
Brighter.
I thought the optician was some sort of magician.
And that was the start of my specky four-eyed life.
It was also the beginning of a fascination with eyes that has never really gone away.
I qualified as an Optometrist in 2004 and, more than twenty years later, I still find eyes remarkable.
My wife would probably tell you I've spent far too much of our marriage talking about eyes and glasses.
She's probably right.
Today I have the privilege of helping people experience that same moment I had all those years ago.
The moment when the world suddenly snaps into focus.
And I still think it's a little bit magical.
When you are ready for your next eye test, I’ll be waiting.
Although there’s no fairy dust or magic. Just some very cool technology, glasses and a friendly team ready to look after your peepers.
